QuickBooks Online Payroll Update – What You Need to Know (April 2026)

QuickBooks Online Payroll Update – What You Need to Know

Beginning July 1, 2026, QuickBooks Online Payroll will implement a significant change to how payroll taxes are handled within the platform.

Under this update, QuickBooks will automatically pay and file all payroll taxes that have already been set up in your account. As a result, users will no longer have the ability to manually submit tax payments or filings through the Payroll Tax Center. Additionally, the option to disable automated tax payments within payroll settings will be removed entirely.

This change is designed to streamline payroll operations by reducing manual tasks and minimizing the need to track deadlines, submit payments, and file tax forms independently. By automating these processes, QuickBooks aims to improve accuracy and save time for businesses managing payroll.

Along with this system update, Intuit is revising the Payroll section of the QuickBooks Terms of Service. Continued use of QuickBooks Payroll after July 1, 2026, indicates acceptance of these updated terms.

Action Required

To avoid any disruption to your payroll processing, all users must complete their tax setup before July 1, 2026. This can be done by navigating to the Payroll Overview section in your account and completing any outstanding “To Do” items related to tax setup.

Ensuring your tax information is fully configured ahead of time will allow the automated system to function properly and keep your payroll running smoothly.
